Key requirements
The original Travel Rule (the FATF version came later). Requires banks and money services businesses to pass certain customer information along with funds transfers, name, address, account number so the receiving institution knows who sent it. FinCEN and the Federal Reserve lowered the threshold from $3,000 to $1,000 in October 2025, expanding the rule to many more transactions.
